5 Products for a Healthy Complexion

By , About.com Guide

Article written by Mary-Ellen Kramer.

We’ve all been there. You go out with friends and the next morning you wake up to a “you have been tagged in 5 pictures” message from Facebook. Or, similarly, you just attended a big event where a photographer was present, your picture was taken multiple times and now you know pictures of you will end up in a friend’s album.

If the thought of either of these scenarios make you cringe because you aren’t happy with the way your complexion looks in pictures, you may be interested in one of these five products, each known for helping create a healthy-looking complexion.

1. Proactiv

It’s not just for teenagers! Some dermatologists are actually recommending this product to patients who are having moderate to severe acne problems, regardless of age. (Mine did!)

Proactiv’s basic system is comprised of 3 major products: a cleanser, a toner, and a repairing lotion. If you follow the regimen exactly, you should see visible results in just a few days and your complexion will look much better in pictures. They also sell many other products to help with specific problems (i.e., extremely dry skin, targeting pimples or eliminating shine). This is not a regimen that you will have to use forever. You can stop using it once your skin gets back on track and then you’ll have it on hand for future breakouts.

2. Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer SPF with Dermaxyl Complex

If you find that your pores are too visible or your complexion looks too greasy or uneven, we recommend trying Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer SPF with Dermaxyl Complex. Put it on after your moisturizer, under your foundation.

It does an excellent job smoothing out and toning your skin while absorbing any oil that you may have. There is just something about this product that almost works like a Photoshop tool for your face.

3. Pangea Organics: Facial Mask

We love this face mask by Pangea Organics. (Review our review) It can instantly make your skin look and feel a lot better. It smooths out your complexion, tightens pores and just gives you a little bit of a glow which combined can give you a big boost in confidence.

This exfoliation mask takes about 20 minutes to use. Use this the day you know your picture will be taken and we are confident you will see the difference in your skin.

4. Philosophy: Miracle Worker

If you are annoyed with how big your crow’s feet seem to look in pictures, we recommend trying Philosophy’s Miracle Worker. This rich gel can be worn under your make-up and can add just the right amount of moisture and elasticity to see a difference in pictures. (More tips on getting rid of crows feet.)

If you have sensitive skin, you may want to try a sample first because it is very strong and could cause irritation. If you do have sensitive skin, check out some of these product reviews of products for sensitive skin.

5. Olay: Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex

If the fine lines on your complexion seem to stand out in pictures, you may want to try one of Olay’s newest products, Wrinkle Revolution Complex. This moisturizer doesn’t help instantly with deep wrinkles (that takes about 2 weeks to see a difference), but we found that it does help to instantly reduce the appearance of those fine lines that can make you look older than you really are. We found it particularly useful for fine lines found on the forehead.
