Electrolysis Review - Part Five

My Fifth Electrolysis Appointment

By , About.com Guide

Get Caught Up

It's official - I completely dread getting electrolysis. It's not my technician, it's not the clinic, it's not the atmosphere, it's feeling the needle going in each and every hair follicle.

Because I'm getting treatment on my face, my eyes need protecting from the bright light, so I wear goggles exactly like tanning goggles. These goggles have become such a mixed blessing to me because they keep me from seeing the actual needle that Marge is using. Then again, it makes my imagination run wild and all I see in my mind is huge needles going into me. (Which is not the case by any means.)

But Marge keeps my mind moving by talking about the latest political news or celebrity news. (Bring up Jon and Kate and I'm all ears.) And while the pain hasn't gotten easier to deal with (yet!), the time does seem to go much faster. So fast, actually, that I'm upping my time starting next treatment. In two weeks I'll be going for 45 minutes, or at least trying 45 minutes.

The most painful area to me is the upper lip. I get a numbing cream applied right away, and it really does help, but there is a certain area that hair grows that don't numb, no matter what. I was actually shocked when Marge told me that we some of us have actual hair follicles growing on our lips. Our lips!?

As for progress, it's coming. Slowly but surely. Marge tells me that she's absolutely seeing progress, and when I look in the mirror, I see it too. In fact, all but one or two of the pesky hair follicles on my chin are gone! As for the upper lip, I'm seeing progress there as well, just not as much as I'd like to be seeing.

I've had 7 treatments so far, and I continue to go every 2 weeks. My first 7 appointments were 30 minutes; moving up to 45 minutes here on out.
