Does my Baby Need Baby Lotion?

By Jen Adkins, About.com

Question: Does my Baby Need Baby Lotion?
Answer:

When my youngest was about 2-3 months old, I asked his pediatrician this very question: Does my baby need baby lotion? He told me that if my son didn't have any very dry patches on his skin, lotion wasn't necessary. He said that parents tend to over think their baby's skin. It was obviously not dry; he didn't need lotion.

He went on to add that if I felt better applying lotion to go ahead. After a bath is the best time to apply lotion, as it seals in the water from the bath. If you're going to use baby lotion, using something specifically made for babies isn't really necessary. Pick a gentle lotion that is fragrance free like Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. Compare Prices

Go with your instinct; if you think your baby needs lotion, go for it!
