Do I Need to Use a Serum Twice a Day?

By

Question: Do I Need to Use a Serum Twice a Day?

I am 36, obsessed with delaying the aging that is creeping onto my face. Last spring I delved into the world of face oils and won't ever go back. My first bottle was Clarins Lotus oil (compare prices) and loved it. I had my bottle of Fresh Seaberry Oil (compare prices) waiting in the wings and was finally able to crack it open last week and I love it even more. (Love Fresh products!)

My most recent face obsession is serum. I've selected the Clinique Laser Focus serum (compare prices), but my question is this: While I know serum goes on before moisturizer, does one use a serum AND a face oil at night? The face oil I have (as far as I know!) contains anti-aging/detoxifying/etc. agents. Would applying a serum first make my face oil redundant? Is the use of the serum in the morning only sufficient? -- from a reader named Christie.

Answer:

Hello from your 35-year-old-age-delaying friend! How did this happen!? Where did the fine lines and crows feet come from?

I love face oils, too, and really am hooked on Argan oil. It has completely changed my skin. There are anti-aging plus anti-acne properties to Argan oil and I would absolutely not give up my serum. Use your serum under your oil, as you said. Serums have the ability to go deeper into the skin's layers so that the "working ingredients" start deep down. I have been using Skin Authority: VitaD serum this past month and absolutely see a difference in my skin, too, even though I was completely not expecting it.

But do you need to use it morning and night? I'd say not. Once a day is probably enough as your skin is also getting anti-aging benefits from the oil. Save time, save money and use it once a day. Reassess in a month to see if your are noticing enough changes for your liking.

  • Argan Oil Benefits for Hair, Skin and Nails: Argan oil is pressed from the nut of the fruit of the Argan Tree, which is only found in Morocco. The argan tree lives to be about 150 to 200 years old and does not start producing the fruit until it is 30 to 50 years old. Because the tree is found only in a limited area, the oil itself is quite rare. Come see why you definitely want to try it.
  • 5 Top Argan Oil Product Picks: Its anti-aging benefits are great due to its high antioxidant levels and fatty essential acids and unlike many anti-aging products that are too hydrating for oily skin, argan oil is also beneficial for excessive oily acne-prone skin. It soothes dry frizzy hair, helps control dry scalp and is even great to use on your flaky nails and dry cuticles.
  • My Current Favorite Serum: Somme Institute Serum. I saw a reduction in the size and color of my freckles and my tone is definitely clearer and younger looking. Read more about this product.
