This book has it all. Just about anything you'd ever want to know about skin care is in this book, from skin care basics to advice and instruction, all the way up to dermatological procedures. Everyone, even those who think they know everything to know about skin care, would value from reading Write a Prescription for Change.

Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change - About the Authors

Doctors Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields bring us their second book, Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change. The doctors, friends from medical school, have a combined 40 years experience in dermatology and both currently practice medicine in California.

They created two widely popular skin care lines: Proactiv Solution and Rodan + Fields Dermatologists. Their first book, UNBLEMISHED, was published in 2004 and dealt specifically with acne.

Lori Bush is also a contributing part of this book. She is the President and General Manager of the Rodan + Fields skin care line.

Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change - What's Inside?

Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change is a complete skin care owners manual. It will take you from days of acne, through pregnancy and past menopause. It will guide you through ingredients found in your products, explaining what popular ingredients do for your skin. This book breaks down skin care myths and facts and gives you real honest commentary by both doctors. It also gives real life stories from both Doctor's lives, and the lives of many of their patients.

What's Inside

There are 169 pages broken into 17 thorough chapters in this book. It begins with the anatomy of skin care (in an easy to read approach, so don't worry!) and works its way though literally everything you'd want to know about skin care: skin care by age, pregnancy, hormonal changes, sun care, discolorations, acne, aging, daily products, visiting a dermatologist, dermatological solutions all the way to plastic surgery.

Each chapter ends with a page to take notes, answer questions to see where your skin falls and to make you aware of important points to remember.

Many pages have little fact boxes on the sides that give a tip, a question and answer or real life story. For example, "How do I get my 53 year old skin to behave like my 19 year old daughters and renew itself every 28 days instead of every 60? Simple - Exfoliation!" and Dr. Fields goes on to explain why.

In case you were wondering, you won't find Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields touting their skin care products in this book. We honestly thought we'd see them recommend their own products in this book, but the only place you found their products listed was in their bios.

What We Loved About It

This book is really one of the most thorough skin care books available. And the voice in which it speaks to you is not highly medical. You feel as though you're getting great advice from great friends who love skin care and love to make people feel good about themselves, not stuffy dermatologists who speak with words and phrases you won't understand.

We love that Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields share some what they personally do for better skin. You'll find them in little fact boxes throughout the book. Dr. Rodan shares how she forced herself to sleep on her back, and when she accomplished this, her sleep lines evened out. Dr. Fields tells us if we can only pick fruit, pick Papaya! It's the best for your skin.

We love the real life skin care stories entangled in this book and the real advice given. It's not one of those books that skims the top of everything, yet never really digs in.

For example, did you know there are different types of wrinkles? There are superficial, deep, dynamic and static, and no, they aren't all treated the same. But you'll find exactly how to see what kind of wrinkles you're dealing with and how to treat them correctly.

Also, do you think that your pores open and close? The Doctors tell us it's just not the way it works! They don't have, as they call them, "trap doors".

This book is a must-read for anyone, man or woman, who wants to learn more about skin care and what they can do for better skin. The Doctors seem aware that visiting a dermatologist isn't always an option, so this helps you learn from the pros without stepping foot in their office.
