If you have combination skin and are looking for an effective facial moisturizer, you may want to skip this product. It does have some good qualities, but we could have used a little more moisture in this cream.

We really wanted to love this product because the description sounded great for combination skin and when you open the box, a message from the creator of bareMinerals reads: “Perfectly hydrates skin. Love, Leslie.” However, we knew right away that it might not be very hydrating because after the first application, we still had that tightness feeling on our face.

After using the product for several days, we did like how it seemed to help our skin texture to look better and it seemed to give a nice healthy glow to our face. It is definitely able to improve the look of your skin, but it just does not do much for hydrating.

bareMinerals: Purely Nourishing Moisturizer (Combination Skin) - Description

This facial moisturizer comes in a 1.7 oz. plastic white pump with a brown cap. It is sold in a box that is about 6 inches tall. The moisturizer is a white lotion that has a thin texture.

We were a little disappointed in the smell. There is no description on the bottle of what it smells like, but we discovered that it smells a bit like sawdust. It would have been nice if it had no scent at all or if it had more of a feminine scent. The smell does not linger so you will only experience the sawdust scent when you apply the moisturizer.

It absorbs easily into skin and does not cause any irritations. It does not contain any SPF. The moisturizer is currently priced at $28.

On the front of the bottle, it says that the product contains RareMinerals and ActiveSoil Complex. We weren’t sure what that meant, if anything at all, but on the product’s box, it says that it has “skin–renewing benefits, including cell turnover and antioxidant protection.”

Instructions read: “Apply to freshly cleansed skin morning and night.”

bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer (Combination Skin) - Review

Things We Loved:

  • Improves Skin’s Texture: After using the product for several days, we were happy with the way our skin looked. We could see an obvious improvement with our pores and elasticity of our skin. The “nourishing” description of this moisturizer is very accurate.
  • Doesn’t Irritate, Dry or Hurt Skin: The product didn’t irritate our skin and it didn’t cause any breakouts.

Things We Didn't Love:

  • The Smell: The pump and the box it comes in looks so feminine that we were expecting a nice, pleasing scent. But much to our dismay, it smells a bit like sawdust. But, as noted above, it doesn’t last very long at all.
  • Not Hydrating Enough: Each time we applied this facial mositurizer, after a few minutes we felt like we needed another application and after a while, we realized no matter how much we applied, it was just not hydrating enough.

bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer (Combination Skin) - Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a product to help minimize pores and improve skin texture, you'll find it with Purely Nourishing Moisturizer. But it didn't moisturize our combination skin well enough. We still felt tight and dry. Perhaps if you have oily skin, this will be enough, but it wasn't for us. If you have normal skin, see Jen's review of the bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for Normal skin. (Our favorite facial moisturizers under $20)
