Guide Review - St Ives: Olive Scrub
My neighbor gave me her bottle of barely used St Ives: Olive Scrub. She said it made her face break out. Always a sucker for new products, I happily took it to try.
Looking at the ingredients, I could see how it could cause some skin to break out. There are some heavy ingredients in it, such as paraffin and olive oil. The ingredient list told me that the exfoliating pieces are jojoba esters, which are small round gentle beads.
The scent of the scrub is fantastic! It smells just like The Body Shop's Olive Body Butter. The consistency is very thick - imagine a heavy body cream. So far, so good! What's not to love?
Then, I applied it to my skin.
First, the jojoba beads are too few to count. It was like there was barely anything "scrubbing" my face. The thick creamy consistency didn't spread evenly, and I couldn't for the life of me get it all over my face without using a ridiculous amount of product.
Once I felt I "washed" my face well enough, I put my face under the shower and gently used my fingers to help remove the product, as I'm sure we all do with facial cleansers. Except, this product didn't want to just wash off. I needed to scrub this off of my face with much work, especially in areas around my nose and under my jaw line.
I then realized that my skin really didn't feel clean, it felt heavy - not moisturized. I proceeded to rewash my face with a drugstore facial exfoliator I knew worked.
