Mario Badescu: Chamomile Cleansing Lotion

This is a decent toner (even though it’s described as a lotion, you would recognize it more as a toner). It's not a pretty product being brown in color, but the tiny ingredient list of water and chamomile extract show no hint of color or fragrance, so we'll take the brown in exchange. It does not sting, irritate, dry or even tingle the skin like some toners do so we were mostly happy with this product. This toner comes in an 8 oz. clear plastic flip-top spout bottle. Since the color of the product is light brown, the bottle looks like it is a light brown color.

The toner doesn’t have a scent. We weren’t sure at first if it might smell like chamomile tea since that’s what we think of when we see “chamomile”, but it does not. The product is a thin, watery light brown liquid. It is described as being good for sensitive and dry skin.

On the bottle, the company states that this cleanser is for ”extremely dry, sensitive or easily irritated skin.” On their website, they write that this product is also helpful with Rosacea and Couperose skin conditions. The instructions for use are: “Twice daily after cleansing, apply to a cotton ball/pad and wipe skin in an outward direction, repeating until cotton comes up clean.”

Also, on the web site, we found an interesting tip for this product: “For soothing red, irritated skin you may make a soothing compress with cold Chamomile Cleansing Lotion. Soak cotton pads or a cloth in toner and place over skin for 10-15 minutes. Pat dry and follow with a soothing cream such as Control Cream or Healing Cream.”

At the time of this review, this product sells for about $15.

Things We Loved:

• Soothing and Not Irritating: This product was great because it didn’t bother sensitive skin at all. It had a soothing effect and wasn’t oily or greasy and didn’t dry out skin. It is a great product for most skin types, especially sensitive and combination skin.
• Results: Used with other Mario Badescu products, we felt like this product helped with the overall look and feel of our skin.

Things We Didn't Love:

• The Color: There was only one negative thing about this product (but it is a big one); we were not happy about the color of the toner. Because it is a light brown color, when you place it on a cotton ball, and then wipe your skin with it, it is almost impossible to tell if you are actually removing any residual make-up or dirt. There is always something satisfying about using a toner and seeing how well you are cleaning your face and you cannot get that proof from this product because of the color.

This is definitely a good product for those with sensitive skin. We could tell from just the short list of ingredients that it was probably not going to be irritating or cause any problems (and we were right). It loses one star because of the color, but besides that, if you have been looking for a toner that will not irritate, we are betting you will find that in this product. 6 Must-Have Skin Care Tools
