When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Makeup Brushes?

By December 7, 2012

I have been telling myself for weeks to clean my makeup brushes, but it seemed like I always would remember in the morning when I was putting my makeup on and rushing out the door.  The next morning would come and I'd remember again.

I finally washed them earlier in the week and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty.  It is amazing at what comes off those brushes when you actually take the time to wash them.  Most of my brushes are shades of brown, but I have a MAC brush that is white, and I was shocked at just how white it was after I washed it.

And washing them is important, because the bacteria that breeds in them continuously goes right back to your skin, which can cause breakouts.

About.com's Guide to Makeup has a great tutorial for cleaning your makeup brushes, so if you're not sure how to do it, start there. Find time to clean your brushes this weekend.  Note that with my brushes, some of them will dry overnight, but some of them need a good 24 hours to dry completely.

Here are a few more tips on makeup brushes:

I like to clean my brushes weekly as well. I also keep a few extra emergency brushes tucked away in case the brushes don’t have time to dry before I need them again.
