Read Reviews Before You Shop

These days it's easy to find a few reviews online before you shell out the cash for a new skin care product. For more lux lines, head over to Sephora.com and do your research. You can sometimes read hundreds of reviews on a single product.

And for drugstore brands, head over to drugstore.com and see what people think of the products that you can get at your local drugstore.

Of course, here at About.com's Skin Care, we do our own in-depth skin care product reviews, too!

Last, one site to book mark is Makeupalley.com. Here, users submit their reviews on just about any line under the sun. Just like any user submitted reviews, read them carefully before judging the star level. I've seen people give 1-star ratings for crazy things. ("OMG! I've been using this product for 2 days now. It totally hasn't erased my crows feet yet! It's a waste of money! Don't buy it.")

When reading reviews, see what people think of the texture, the scent, the price, and if it did what it said it would do. Don't pay any attention to the reviewers who have used the product for a day or two, as that doesn't really give you a good idea on the product's ability to work in the long run.

Even at the drugstore, you can easily drop $100 or more on a few creams and serums. Doing your research before you shop will save you money and frustration in the long run.

This is great advice… the people who use the products will always tell you the most honest feedback about the products.

For me – I’ve recently launched a new skin care line, SkinAgain, and have been fortunate to have so many of my customers just rave about the products.

The amount of reviews that you can access on the internet is awesome. One thing to keep in mind is that although there are lots of reviews, you should definitely still research enough to get an accurate review. Many people love to rant and complain about how certain products didn’t work for them. Many people get positive results from products but don’t share their stories. Bottom line, don’t let one bad review affect your buying decision.

I totally had to laugh at this: after two days “It totally hasn’t erased my crows feet yet! It’s a waste of money! Don’t buy it.”

This is so true. Many people expect an over night fix without even realizing that their skin didn’t get in the condition it is in over night!

People can be so gullible. There is just no way that a skin care product can erase wrinkles within a week (or whatever length of time they claim). But a good product can, over time, soften the lines. I’ve experienced that with JK Secret Rich Moisturizer and Oil of Olay Eye Lifting Serum.

I LOVE Makeupalley. I’ve been a member for years and check it out all the time before buying a product. However, do read as many reviews as possible… the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle of 5 lippies and 1 lippie! :-)
