I am so excited to share mySkin.com with you because it is one of the coolest skin care sites to play around with.
We've all been in a position similar to this: You find a skin care product you like, but maybe it's been discontinued, costs more than you regularly want to spend or isn't easy to find. What do you do? Chances are, you take your chances on products that claim to do the same thing and hope you're not wasting your money. You don't have to do that anymore!
mySkin.com is a new interactive website that lets you create a user profile complete with skin type, coloring, sensitivity and anything else you can think of. Then, you put in a minimum of three products that you are using. You then get to rate them on how they work for your skin type by giving a star rating and answering a few questions about the product. Currently they have over 80,000 products in their data base, and they tell me they're adding more each day. I was surprised to see some off the wall products that I put in there show right up.
With this information, they give you new suggestions of products that are similar to those you're currently using. Not only that, but they show you products that other users that rated with your exact same skin characteristics. So, you're getting recommendations and are able to see actual reviews from other users.
Then, you can even purchase your products via links they provide to online retailers. The site isn't in the market to sell you a product - in fact, they don't sell products at all! They simply provide the info for you, listing multiple sites that sell your product. (They even let you know when your product is on sale!)
There's a forum to connect with others, as well as blogs to keep up with. This is a site you could definitely spend some time on and gain a lot of product knowledge. It's good to be armed with info when you're standing there looking at the products on the shelves.
mySkin.com is currently by invite only. They have provided About.com readers a special code to get in and try it out. Simply enter ABOUT in the invite code and you'll get right in. You can even invite your friends once your a user. Try it out, and let me know what you think!
