N1H1 Flu and Hand Sanitizer

Wednesday April 29, 2009

It's apparent that face masks and hand sanitizers are a hot commodity right now with the N1H1 Flu, more commonly known as Swine Flu.

I know people are saying not to freak out just yet, but as a mom, I just can't help it. Typically I just bury my head in the sand and ignore things like this, so I'm going to give that another try and see how long it works.

So I'm wondering about you; are you stocking up on hand sanitizer? Do you find yourself using it more now that you did just a few weeks ago? What's the verdict in your household?

I vacillate between thinking this is another pseudo disaster and we are all going to get it. Reality probably lies somewhere in between.

Me too, Kerry. It doesn’t take much to make me afraid of things like this.

We have a new born in the house, my daughter used HS twice when we went out with her baby today. Apparently there have been cases just a few blocks from where she lives.

I’ve worked direct care for so long with the developmentally disabled that I wash my hands practically every time I go past a sink, anyway. It’s become ingrained.

BTW… Actual washing does better than using the hand sanitizer alone.

I agree and disagree to some extent dear. I think washing your hands is absolutely needed. But this is something we should always do before handling food. I work in a large community home and over the past few years we have managed to avoid much if not all the really bad viruses that are going around by washing our nostrils and mouthes. Think about it. the nasties allways get in through these holes; up the nose or in the mouth.

I have HS in my car, my purse, my bathroom, at my desk….there’s a wall dispenser at my son’s school. I ALWAYS use a clorox wipe on a shopping cart before I use it.

I have found an exceptional product that kills 99.9% of bacteria, germs and viruses. Do you know that once alcohol based products are evaporated, it stops killing germs. The technology behind this particular product is that the product has a positive charge, and our skin has a negative charge. This particular compound is cationic and will stick to your skin and obliterate germs for HOURS after each application. It does not dry the skin the way alcohol based products do, and moisturizes your skin with essential oils and emollients. You can order the product through http://pureworksco.yolasite.com.

I have been lucky so far, we have had colds but no flu. In my child care I have been using Epi Clenz, a hand sanitizer. Don’t know if this is helping but so far, so good. Epi Clenz has a 15 minute residual unlike the other brands. It also has aloe in it so my hands are soft, soft, soft. I usually hate hand sanitizer due to the fact it drys my hands and smells. But this product is nice. I ordered my sanitizer from ronortega@altmedsupply.com
